Chives Onion

Onion Chives (Allium schoenoprasum) are a light purple flowering herb with long, thin, green leaves and mild onion flavor. The grow in clumps and can reach up to 10 inches tall. They are a member of the onion family and are related the amaryllis family. They can be used as a garnish or substitute for onions in many dishes.  

Growing conditions: Chives grow in full sun and well-drained soil. They can be started from seed or grown from transplants in the spring. Plants will need to be divided every three years in the spring. In mild climates the plants may remain evergreen, but in cold climates the foliage is killed over the winter.
